Can Travel Insurace Be Invalid Because You Don’t Follow the News?

If you are planning on purchasing a travel insurance policy, you will want to pay more attention to the events in the news. After a Qantas worker strike cancelled some traveler’s vacation plans, some insurance companies are saying that this event doesn’t qualify for the ‘unforeseen events’ disclaimer because of wide spread media coverage of the event.
The insurance providers are stating that this only applies to policies that were issued on or after the strike began. However, this may be just a way to discourage claims that are bogus.
It is still unclear if the insurance companies have a written policy for what is and what is not an unforeseen event. While doing your research for your next travel insurance plan, you should make sure that you fully understand the fine print of your policy before signing up.
