There are certain guidelines that must be observe for an effective fasting cholesterol test procedure. Doctors would normally require people who undergo cholesterol tests to go on a fasting making sure that the result will be more accurate. Patients are given the right diet and other instructions on what to observe before the laboratory test. There are certain foods that must be avoided to ensure the effectiveness of the result.
Observing a fasting cholesterol test guidelines will lessen the chances of repeating the whole procedure. Patients need to see their doctor weeks before going through a cholesterol test. This will enable patients to have the necessary preparation for the test procedure and for their doctors to give them the proper guidelines. There are also particular meals that have to be taken hours before the actual cholesterol test which patients need to observe.
The fasting cholesterol test will only be accurate if the patient heeds to the doctor’s advice. A cholesterol test may be expensive in some hospitals and in getting an ineffective result will add up to the cost. Aside from this, an inaccurate result will mean that a patient will have to go through the whole fasting process again which may cause further inconvenience.
